China opens market for Ukrainian peas – possible shortage

Before the start of the new season, pea prices are declining to 13.5–14 thousand UAH per ton. Meanwhile, China has opened its market, and traders are increasingly shifting to this crop. As a result, a shortage and price increase may occur by mid-summer.

Currently, there is a slight decrease in pea prices ahead of the season. Theoretically, prices could drop further to 13.5–14 thousand UAH per ton. However, many traders who previously did not deal with peas are now actively engaging in purchases. Niche crops typically offer good margins, especially for exports, which is driving market interest.

In 2025, the area under pea cultivation increased from 212,000 hectares to over 250,000 hectares.

The pea market could see prices rise again to 15–16 thousand UAH per ton. This will depend on logistics, weather conditions, and the pace of Chinese import growth.
