Export to the EU: less raw materials, more processing

More than 10 years of free trade with the European Union have turned our trade into an EU-centric one: now 59,5% of our export are to the Commonwealth countries. This was reported by the Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine – Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka.

Ukrainian export to the EU grew by $1,34 billion, or ,.9%. There is a trend towards a decrease in export of raw materials.

In particular, corn export amounted to 14,06 million tons, which is 1,2 million tons less than in 2023.

Due to restrictions at the EU level, we sold 51% less sugar to the EU than in 2023 - $195 million less, but our sugar export in general increased by 45% and reached 749 thousand tons, of which only 303 thousand went to the EU.

The most telling figure is the reduction in sunflower seed export - 76%. In contrast, sunflower oil export grew by 13%.

Thanks to coordination between the government and exporters, poultry exports fell within the limits set by the EU – 136,8 thousand tons. The EU accounts for 40,6% of our poultry exports worth $390 million.

Ukrainian honey export to the EU reached 71,18 tons and brought 22% more money to our beekeepers – $136 million.
