Ukraine will increase gas imports from Poland: regulator approved the project

The National Commission for State Regulation in the Spheres of Energy and Public Utilities (NCRECP) has approved the project to increase gas import capacity from Poland.

The proposal to increase the capacity of the gas transmission system at the entry point at the interstate interconnection with Poland was submitted by LLC “Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine”.

This decision contributes to the expansion of natural gas imports from EU countries, which is an important step to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience and its integration into the European energy market.

Also, increasing imports from Poland will reduce dependence on risky supply routes, expand Ukraine’s integration into the European gas market and increase the reliability of energy supply in wartime conditions.

On July 6, 2026, a joint annual capacity allocation auction will be held. In case of sufficient demand based on its results and a positive economic test, Ukraine and Poland will increase the capacity.

The Polish regulator has also adopted a decision approving the project, confirming the coordinated actions between the countries.

The Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine must publish the agreed project and the conditions of access to the new capacity on its official website.
