Ukraine exported up to 48% of wheat to the countries of Africa, the Middle East and Türkiye

During the whole period of functioning of the "grain shipping corridor", Ukraine exported 47-48% of the total volume of wheat supplies to the countries of Africa, the Middle East and Türkiye. A significant share of wheat was exported to Türkiye, because last year this country was very often used as a grain hub for transshipment of goods, primarily to countries in Africa and the Middle East.

Besides, significant volumes of Ukrainian wheat are traditionally processed in Turkish ports into flour. Part of the wheat from Ukraine, already in the form of flour, also went to African regions. Ukraine exported approximately 20% of wheat to Asian countries, and about a third to Europe.

At the same time, about 10% of the total corn exports are supplied to Africa. Traditionally, the main buyers of this crop are Europe (about 40%) and Asia (32%). Ukraine exports approximately 15% to the countries of the Middle East and Türkiye.

As of February 20, 2023, 130 vessels with Ukrainian wheat went to Africa, the Middle East and Türkiye, 23 vessels to Asia, and some of them  to Europe. Statistics on cargoes with corn: Africa, the Middle East and Türkiye - 96 vessels, the EU - 139 vessels, Asia - 53.
