Foreign cheeses have occupied almost half of Ukraine’s store shelves

In the first quarter of 2025, the supply of foreign cheeses to Ukraine increased, and they now account for nearly half of the population’s consumption in national supermarket chains. From January to February 2025, large national retail chains provided 47% of domestic cheese consumption with imported products.

Ukrainians consume about 8,000 tons of cheese per month. Approximately 3,000 tons of cheese are imported monthly, with the majority being hard and semi-hard varieties. The majority of the supply comes from Polish companies. According to the association’s estimates, an additional 1,000 tons of cheese are imported illegally, without quality control or tax payments.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian producers manufacture up to half of the total consumption – 4,000 tons of cheese per month.
