Ukraine imported cars worth nearly $720 million in January-February

The import of passenger cars into Ukraine, including cargo-passenger vans and racing cars (HS code 8703), in January-February 2025 decreased by 7.8% in monetary terms compared to the same period last year, reaching $719.92 million.

In February, the import of passenger cars into Ukraine exceeded the February 2024 figure by 3%, reaching $385.94 million, while in January, there was a 17.8% decline compared to January 2023.

The top three suppliers of cars in January-February 2025 were Germany, the United States, and Japan, whereas in 2024, they were the United States, China, and Germany.

Car supplies from Germany increased by nearly 40%, reaching $152.15 million, with their share in imports rising to 21.13% from 13.94% the previous year.

Cars worth $122.13 million were imported from the USA to Ukraine (15% decrease). Japan, which was not among the top three car-importing countries last year, supplied cars worth $79 million over the two months this year.

China, which last year had imports worth $114.88 million (second place after the U.S.), has not yet made it into the top three this year.

Overall, imports of passenger cars from other countries during this period totaled $366.63 million, compared to $413.87 million in January-February of the previous year.

At the same time, in January-February of this year, Ukraine exported such vehicles for only $1.9 million, mainly to the UAE (67% of exports), the Czech Republic, and Moldova. In contrast, the previous year, the country exported them to foreign markets for $3.8 million, primarily to Canada (47.7%), the United States (26.8%), and Moldova.

In the overall structure of Ukraine’s goods imports in January-February, passenger cars accounted for 6.37%, while in the export structure, they made up 0.03%.

In 2024, Ukraine imported passenger cars worth $4.385 billion, an 8% increase compared to the previous year, while exports reached $10.1 million (2.7 times less).
