Ukrainian iron ore exports decreased due to China’s economic situation

In February 2025, Ukraine’s mining industry experienced a significant reduction in iron ore export volumes, dropping by 21.4% compared to January, reaching 2.46 million tons valued at $202.34 million. Compared to the same month last year, the figure decreased by 3.3%.

China remained the primary consumer of Ukrainian iron ore, but shipments to the country in February fell by 24.8% compared to January, reaching 1.29 million tons. Overall exports from Ukraine for January-February decreased by 1.2% compared to the same period in 2024, totaling 5.59 million tons worth $449.39 million, of which 3.02 million tons were sent to China.

Over the two months of this year, iron and manganese ore accounted for 43.7% of the total volume of Ukraine’s export rail shipments, equivalent to 6.06 million tons.
