In January 2025, Ukraine’s imports of goods increased by 7.8% compared to the same period last year, rising from $5.1 billion to $5.5 billion, while exports decreased by 5.9%, dropping from $3.4 billion to $3.2 billion. Import volumes for January have been growing since 2023, where they reached $4.8 billion, while exports have returned to the 2023 level of $3.1 billion.
It is noted that the largest volumes of goods were imported to Ukraine from China - $1.4 billion, Poland - $487 million, and Turkey - $389 million. The top destinations for Ukrainian exports were Poland - $352 million, Italy - $205 million, and Spain - $202 million.
In the total volume of goods imported in January 2025, 68% consisted of the categories “machinery, equipment, and transport” - $2.2 billion (contributing 12.9 billion UAH, or 27% of customs revenue), “chemical industry products” - $901 million (7.3 billion UAH, 15%), and “fuel and energy products” - $734 million (14.2 billion UAH, 30%). The top three categories of goods exported from Ukraine included: food products ($1.8 billion), metals and metal products - $325 million, and machinery, equipment, and transport - $282 million.
In general, in January 2025, 22.2 million UAH were paid to the budget during the customs clearance of the export of goods subject to an export duty.
