Ukraine will receive from partners additional facilities for temporary storage of grain

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine appealed to the governments of the USA, Canada, Great Britain, and the EU with a request to provide Ukraine with equipment for temporary storage. The preliminary results are: the first batch is already sailing to Ukraine.

Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Markiyan Dmytrasevich told about this on the air of the national marathon  “Edyny Novyni”.

Thus, according to his words, taking into account the rather problematic export development due to the blockade of sea ports, the deficit of storehouses for storing the harvest may reach from 10 to 15 million tons by the end of the year.

“We are talking about temporary storage. These are the so-called sleeves for grain storage, which our farmers already used before the war. They have the form of long polyethylene bags, which can hold up to 200 000 tons of grain, and which can be stored directly in the fields. The second option, which is used in Canada and the USA, is the so-called temporary silos, or grain rings. This is a large metal ring, which is fixed on an ordinary platform, a special material that does not allow moisture to spread over the surface, and on top it is closed with a special awning that protects the grain from environmental influences. One such silo holds approximately 5 000 grain,” - Markiyan Dmytrasevich explained.

He noted that today many farmers, understanding the future problem, are already purchasing such facilities, primarily sleeves for grain storage.

The Deputy Minister said that before the start of the full-scale war, Ukrainian farmers had storage capacities of approximately 75 million tons. Grain storage facilities for 10 million tons are located in the temporarily occupied territories.

It should be mentioned that during the field work in spring, Ukraine sowed 13,4 million hectares of agricultural land. According to forecasts, a harvest of 60 million tons of grain and oil crops is expected.
