In June, Ukraine significantly reduced dairy export to the EU due to the cancellation of autonomous trade measures by the European Commission, which caused uncertainty about tariffs and quotas.
The main export categories in June were casein (24%), butter (23%), ice cream (18%), condensed milk and cream (17%).
The volume of supply of condensed milk and cream reduced to 3,010 tons (-40%), whey to 1,140 tons (-33%), butter to 1,440 tons (-50%) and cheese to 1,180 tons (-8%) compared to May of this year.
Compared to June 2024, the natural volumes of export of milk and cream, not condensed (-9%), milk and cream, condensed (-23%), whey (-42%) decreased. Supplies to foreign markets of buttermilk (+56%), butter (+144%), cheese (+50%) and ice cream (+21%) increased compared to the previous year.
At the same time, Ukraine slightly increased the natural volumes of buttermilk exports to 506 tons (+1%), ice cream to 2.24 thousand tons (+0.2%), milk and cream, not condensed to 1.51 thousand tons (+26%) compared to May.
However, the EU and Ukraine revised the trade agreement, agreeing on new quotas for the export of Ukrainian dairy products subject to a gradual transition to EU standards by 2028.
The EC approved the customs clearance procedure and increased quotas for Ukrainian suppliers for butter from 5 to 7 thousand tons, for skimmed milk powder from 5 to 15.4 thousand tons, and banned quotas for whole milk powder, fermented and sour-milk products, including yogurts and kefir.
