In the past year, the total import of seeds for cereals and oilseeds, sugar beets, and vegetables reached $381.3 million, which is 3.2% higher than the figure for 2023. Last year, Ukraine imported 8,600 tons of cereal seeds and 22,200 tons of oilseed crops, totaling $302.3 million. Experts noted that compared to 2023, the cost of importing these crops decreased by 3.8%, but it is almost 2.5 times higher than the domestic export of seeds, which was $122.6 million.

Seeds of sugar beets worth $50.1 million and vegetable seeds worth nearly $28.9 million were purchased abroad. In 2023, 727 tons of sugar beet seeds were imported for $32.8 million, while last year, the volume of purchases of this type of agricultural product increased by 52.7%, reaching nearly 973 tons. At the same time, the price of seeds increased to $51,493 per ton last year (compared to $45,117 per ton in 2023).

The volumes of imported seeds fully meet the needs of domestic farmers, as they allow for sowing more than 300,000 hectares of agricultural land with sugar beets. The cost of imported vegetable seed supplies increased last year by 27.3% compared to the previous year’s figure, reaching $28.9 million. In physical terms, purchases increased by 17.2%, reaching 945 tons.
