Ukraine has increased its export of live cattle this year

In January-February 2025, Ukraine increased both the volume and revenue from the export of live cattle compared to the same period last year.

During January-February 2025, Ukraine exported 2,720 tons of live cattle (+158%) for a total of $5.55 million (+275%).

Ukraine boosted its live cattle shipments to foreign markets compared to the previous year’s period. However, in February, the physical export volumes were lower than in January 2025, despite stable demand in external markets. Nevertheless, the revenue from the sale of these animals increased.

According to preliminary data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine (SSSU), in February 2025, Ukraine exported 1,300 tons of live cattle, which is 8% less than in January 2025 but 167% more than in February 2024. The revenue from exported animals reached $2.81 million, which is 3% more than in January 2025 and 312% higher than in February 2024.

The situation is reversed in the market for fresh or chilled beef. In February, Ukrainian exporters supplied 600 kg of fresh or chilled beef to foreign markets (-97% compared to January and -99% compared to the previous year).

The export revenue for this product was $8,000, a decrease by 92% from January 2025 and 97% less than in February 2024. In January-February 2025, Ukraine shipped 22 tons of chilled beef to foreign markets (-49%) for a total of $110,000 (-60%).

Meanwhile, the physical export volume of frozen beef in February was 1,320 tons, a 6% decrease from January but an 8% increase compared to the previous year. The product was supplied for $4.82 million (-9% and -8%, respectively). In January-February 2025, Ukraine exported 2,700 tons of frozen beef (+8%) for $10.12 million (-7%).

In February, Ukraine did not import live cattle. Despite this, imports of chilled beef increased to 13 tons (+166%), while imports of frozen beef decreased to 88 tons (-16%) compared to January 2025. However, compared to the previous year’s figures, imports of chilled beef decreased by 36%, and frozen beef imports fell by 52%.
