Ukraine has become one of the largest exporters of turkey meat in Europe

Over the past four years, Ukraine has turned from an importer of turkey meat into an exporter. As a result of russian aggression, the demand for turkey meat reduced, which made it possible to change the trade balance. In 2019-2021, the main importers of Ukrainian turkeys were Moldova (almost half of the volume), Benin and Azerbaijan.

In 2022 deliveries to these countries increased by 100%. In 7 months of 2023, 4,4 thousand tons of turkey meat were exported, which is almost as much as in 2022. It should be stressed that in 2022 the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Moldova became the largest importers of this type of meat. The first four EU countries are among the largest importers of Polish meat in general. And this means that Ukraine is slowly superseding Polish products from these markets.

In 11 months of 2022 Poland exported 183 000 tons of turkey meat, mainly to Germany (34%, 62 000 tons), Spain (10%, 18 000 tons), and the Czech Republic (7%, 12 000 tons), as well as to Great Britain (5%, 8 thousand tons) and Congo (3%, 5 thousand tons).

Poultry meat was imported to the EU mainly from: Brazil (206 thousand tons), Ukraine (168 thousand tons), Thailand (113 thousand tons) and Great Britain (97 thousand tons). At the same time, in 8 months of 2023, poultry meat was exported from the EU mainly to Great Britain (497 thousand tons), Ghana (95 thousand tons), the Democratic Republic of Congo (65 thousand tons) and Ukraine (58 thousand tons). Import from Ukraine to the EU still significantly prevails in the reverse direction of trade.
