Ukraine has banned the import of eggs and poultry from the USA: what is the reason

Ukraine has restricted the import of eggs, poultry and products from them from nine US states due to the registration of bird flu there, the Eastern Interregional Main Directorate of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection reported, citing the Order of the state veterinary inspector.

Since December 27, 2024, the import of hatching eggs, poultry, and products from them from highly pathogenic avian influenza zones from the US states of Arizona, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Illinois is prohibited. Since December 30, the state of Montana has been added to these territories.

An exception will be made for products that have been processed using a method that guarantees the destruction of the pathogen of this disease in accordance with the requirements for the import (shipment) of food products of animal origin, feed, hay, straw, as well as by-products of animal origin and products of their processing and processing into the customs territory of Ukraine, approved by Order of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food № 553 of November 16, 2018.
