Ukraine and the United States of America have signed an updated Strategic Partnership Charter

Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba and the US Secretary of the USA Anthony Blinken have signed the Ukraine-US Strategic Partnership Charter, which sets out the main directions of bilateral relations in key areas for decades to come.

The renewed Charter will replace a similar document signed by Ukraine and the United States in 2008. The 2021 edition has a number of differences. The Charter welcomes the implementation of important reforms in Ukraine. The document also supports the plan for the transformation of the Ukrainian economy, which provides for the modernization of key sectors and the promotion of investment.

In the section “IV: Economic transformation” of the Charter it is said that Ukraine and the United States of America intend to strengthen economic and trade relations, promote trade liberalization, and facilitate access to markets for goods and services and that Ukraine and the United States of America intend to cooperate in order to strengthen the trade partnership between the Ukrainian and American companies so that to significantly increase their participation in the economies of both countries, in particular, in projects in energy, agriculture, infrastructure, transport, security, health care, as well as with special emphasis on digitalization.
