Ukraine and Guatemala discussed the deepening of bilateral economic cooperation, in particular, the continuation of work on the conclusion of the Free Trade Agreement. This was discussed during the meeting in the Dominican Republic by the President of Guatemala Bernardo Arevalo and the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - the Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliya Svyridenko.
"Since the election of the President of Guatemala last year in July, we have been actively working on continuing the systematic improvement of trade between our countries. Last year, the total volume of foreign trade with Guatemala amounted to almost 45 billion US dollars. We have the potential to strengthen it, and the Free Trade Agreement will be an unconditional factor that will contribute to this. During the meeting, we agreed to continue working on its development," - Yuliya Svyridenko said.
Besides this, the First Deputy Prime Minister thanked Guatemala for the systematic support of Ukraine.
"Guatemala has supported Ukraine most actively among all Latin American countries since the beginning of the full-scale war. Guatemala joined the circle of member countries of the International Crimean Platform, joined the Core Group for the creation of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression. Guatemala became a co-author of many resolutions of the "Ukrainian dossier" adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2022-2023, and voted positively for all these resolutions. The country took part in the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland and joined the joint communique based on its results," Yulia Svyridenko added.
According to her, Guatemala actively participates in various coalitions in support of Ukraine, in particular, such as the Summit of First Ladies. The country confirmed its participation in the Summit.
Ukraine also invited Guatemala to join the International Coalition for the Returning of Ukrainian Children.
In addition, active work continues on the organization of the Ukraine-Latin America Summit.
