Ukraine accounts for 37% of global sunflower oil trade

Ukraine’s sunflower oil exports amounted to $5.12 billion, which represents 36.8% of the world’s exports of this product and 20.8% of Ukraine’s total agricultural exports.

The leading global exporters of sunflower oil in 2024 were:  Ukraine – $5.12 billion; Russia – $3.72 billion; Turkey – $1.28 billion.

The main destinations for Ukrainian oil exports in 2024 were:  EU – 56%; India – 14%; Turkey – 7%; Egypt – 3%; Iraq – 3%.

2024 was marked by a massive return to deep-water seaports. While in 2023 only 18% of oil was shipped via the Black Sea, last year this figure rose to 52%.

At the same time, experts note that the EU remains the main market, but India and Turkey play an important role. This demonstrates the ability of Ukrainian exporters to maintain long-distance supplies thanks to the restoration of the maritime corridor. Overall, Ukraine exported sunflower oil to 134 countries worldwide, surpassing the 2023 figure (128 countries).
