Over the 11 months of the 2024/2025 marketing year, Ukrainian producers exported approximately 5 million tons of sunflower oil, including nearly 0.5 million tons in July. This has led to a shortage of oil for bottling on the domestic market and a rise in sunflower seed procurement prices to their highest levels of the season.
Reduced stocks and strong demand for sunflower oil toward the end of the season have driven sunflower seed prices in Ukraine to their highest levels since the start of the 2024/2025 season.
Domestic demand prices for crude sunflower oil in Ukraine have risen to 58,000–60,000 UAH/ton, equivalent to $1,165–$1,200/ton, while maximum export prices at ports do not exceed $1,150–$1,160/ton.
This has caused a sharp increase in demand prices for sunflower seeds to 27,000–28,000 UAH/ton (50% oil content), and in some cases up to 29,000 UAH/ton for prompt delivery to processing plants. Meanwhile, farmers have raised their offer prices to 29,000–30,000 UAH/ton on a free-on-farm basis.
An additional factor supporting price increases is the forecast of a reduced sunflower harvest in southeastern Ukraine due to prolonged drought.
