The share of imported pork on Ukrainian market is only 2%

The activity of external pork supplies increased at the beginning of autumn, but did not significantly affect the market. During September, Ukraine received 2,16 thousand tons of fresh, chilled and frozen pork (UKTZED (Ukrainian Customs Commodity Classification Codes for Foreign Trade) 0203) with a total value of 5,5 million USD. Despite the revival of imports in September compared to the previous month (+66%), it didn’t significantly affect the market and price.

Analysts of the association note a slight deviation in the customs value of imported pork – the weighted average price of a kilogram of imported pork in September was 2,55 USD/kg (+0,03 USD/kg compared to the previous month). Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium and Canada retain the leading positions among supplier countries.

According to the results of the three quarters of 2023, this year’s imports are four times smaller than a year earlier: 9,95 thousand tons against almost 41 thousand tons in January-September 2022. Therefore, the specific weight of pork of foreign origin is about 2% of the total market capacity, or 3-4% of the domestic industrial production of this type of meat.
