Romanian government approves mechanism for grain imports from Ukraine

The Romanian government has approved a procedure that will regulate the import of four types of agricultural products from Ukraine. The countries have established a procedure, which allows the import of wheat, corn, sunflower seeds and soybeans only on the basis of a marketing agreement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Thus, the import of grains will be possible only for Romanian farmers and processors who document that they need the quantity to replenish their stocks. Romanian farmers and processors wishing to replenish stocks submit documents confirming the need for imports. The Commission for the Analysis of Requests checks the documents and gives suggestions on whether the deal should be marketed or not.

The ANSVSA issues a certificate of conformity for the imported product based on the analysis of a product sample provided to the importer. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development issues an agreement to the farmer or processor to place the required quantity on the market. Before being sent for processing or feed, the product is re-checked by ANSVSA to confirm quality compliance.
