Perspectives for trade and economic cooperation between Ukraine and Pakistan

Intensification of the dialogue at the highest level and holding the first meeting of the Joint Ukrainian-Pakistani commission on economic cooperation will promote the development of trade and economic relations between Ukraine and Pakistan. This was stated by the First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economy of Ukraine Oleksiy Lyubchenko during a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Ukraine Noel I. Khokhar.

«For 8 months of 2021, the trade turnover between Ukraine and Pakistan has almost doubled - to 276,7 million US dollars compared to the previous period. In particular, Ukrainian export increased in 2,3 times to 210,6 million US dollars. Our countries have unused potential for bilateral trade. Ukraine is interested in regular supply of agricultural products to Pakistan. This year Ukraine expects to get a record grain harvest, 70% of which is planned to be exported», - said Oleksiy Lyubchenko.

The implementation of joint initiatives at the business level can be promising for both countries. Thus, Ukrainian companies can participate in large-scale projects in Pakistan. These include the construction and modernization of hydraulic systems, power facilities, the development of transport infrastructure, including the railway network, the supply of railway carriages and equipment.

Another important sphere of ​​cooperation can be the agro-industrial sector, including the creation of facilities for processing agricultural products, supply of mineral fertilizers and food products of Ukrainian production.

From his side, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Ukraine Noel I. Khokhar announced an ambitious goal – to increase trade between the countries to 1 billion US dollars a year.

In addition, the Ukrainian side informed about such investment attraction tools as the law on investment nannies, industrial parks and the resumption of privatization.

Based on the results of the meeting, the parties agreed to begin preparatory work for the first meeting of the Joint Ukrainian-Pakistani commission on economic cooperation and strengthen communication on mutual business missions.

The meeting was also attended by the First Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sialkot city Hurram Aslam, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Rahim Yar Khan city Azam Shabbir, who expressed interest in the development of Ukrainian-Pakistani business relations and holding trade fairs in the countries on a regular basis, which will help strengthen economic cooperation.
