Over 80% of sour cream imported by Moldova is Ukrainian

Moldova remains critically dependent on imports of Ukrainian dairy raw materials.

Ukraine is the key supplier of raw milk to Moldova – 66.1% of the total import volume. The share of Ukrainian high-fat sour cream amounts to 80.2%. Romania ranks second with a share of 18.7%, while supplies from other countries remain insignificant.

Despite this, domestic milk production in Moldova covers only about 12% of internal consumption. In 2025, farms produced approximately 66–67 thousand tonnes of milk, while the country’s total demand is estimated at 520–550 thousand tonnes.
