In order to export biomethane, Ukrainian companies must undergo ISCC international certification

Ukraine plans to introduce a biomethane market in early 2023 and is preparing to fill gas networks with it. The owners of biogas stations will have the opportunity to sell biomethane on the domestic market, but as natural gas.

We would like to remind you that the diversification of sources of energy supply and the reduction of dependence on the import of energy carriers is a global trend. One of these sources is, in particular, the production of biogas, the raw material of which is waste from the agricultural sector. Last year, the corresponding Law of Ukraine “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding the Development of Biomethane Production” was adopted.

However, in order for Ukrainian companies to be able to export biomethane, they must pass the international certification of sustainable development and greenhouse gas emissions  – ISCC.

You can familiarize yourself with the concept of ISCC at the link ISCC EU 201 System Basics (iscc-system.org).

You can read about the traceability requirements (taking into account the requirements for biogas and biomethane plants) here: ISCC EU 203 Traceability and Chain of Custody (iscc-system.org).

And also learn about the requirements for greenhouse gas emissions, taking into account the requirements for biogas and biomethane plants, here: ISCC EU 205 Greenhouse Gas Emissions (iscc-system.org).

The other day “Bureau Veritas Certification Ukraine” will hold a webinar: “ISCC EU basic requirements” with the opportunity to write a test and receive a certificate. The announcement and details of the webinar will be published on the website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
