Moldova will not extend licensing for the import of wheat, corn, and sunflower from Ukraine in 2026

The licensing of imports of grains and oilseeds from Ukraine, which Moldovan farmers had insisted on continuing, will not be extended in 2026.

Imports will be carried out under the regular commercial regime, but will be subject to stricter controls to avoid significant market imbalances.

Previously, the "Forța Fermierilor" Association repeatedly appealed to the authorities to extend the mandatory licensing of grain and oilseed imports from Ukraine. According to them, until the end of the war in Ukraine, it is necessary to create a permanent mechanism to protect local production and Moldovan exports to European markets.

The mechanism for licensing imports of wheat, corn, and sunflower was introduced in October 2023 under pressure from mass farmer protests and was extended several times. Thus, the import of grains and oilseeds into the Republic of Moldova is permitted only on the basis of a license issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.
