The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine has adjusted the forecast for grain production downwards

The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine has adjusted the forecast for grain production in 2020 downwards: from 72,1 million tons to about 70 million tons. As Ukrinform reports, this was mentioned by the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development.

One of the reasons for the decrease in the forecast of the Ministry is the weather conditions of recent weeks, which have caused either the loss of potential corn yields, or a significant decrease of it. «If the autumn weather conditions are favorable, the corn harvest is expected at 35 million tons, and the total grain harvest - at 70 million tons,» - said Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture Taras Vysotsky.

The Cherkasy region (133,8 thousand ha), Odesa region (33,5 thousand ha) and Kirovohrad region (21,3 thousand ha) have suffered the largest losses in terms of potential corn harvest. At the same time, a significant decrease in yield is observed in Cherkasy (234 thousand ha), Kirovohrad (146,7 thousand ha) and Poltava (120,5 thousand ha) regions. In general, the estimated loss of corn harvest all over Ukraine, according to the Ministry of Economic Development, may amount to about 2 million tons.
