India has extended the permit for duty-free pea imports: a signal to sow for Ukrainian farmers

India has officially extended the permit for pea imports until May 31, 2025. The country’s government made this decision on March 10, which serves as a positive signal for Ukrainian farmers ahead of the spring sowing campaign.

Despite its traditional protectionist policies and restrictions on agricultural product imports, India periodically opens temporary “import windows,” which Ukrainian legume exporters actively use.

In 2025, the sown area for peas in Ukraine could increase by 15%, and by 2026, an even greater increase in the production of this crop is expected. An additional factor boosting interest in pea cultivation is the finalization of the opening of the Chinese market for Ukrainian products and the signing of the corresponding protocol on March 6, 2025.
