GO ASIA: opportunities for Ukrainian food products in the East Asian market

 Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office, together with COIN, with the support of the USAID Competitive Economy Program of Ukraine (USAID CEU Program) announces the launch of a large-scale project - «GO ASIA: Opportunities for Ukrainian Food in the East Asian Market» («Go Asia»).

Within the project there will be an organization of a series of webinars focusing on the development of Ukrainian food exports in 7 countries of South-east Asia: Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. In addition to webinars, there is a number of individual consultations with the analysis of supermarket shelves in selected countries for companies that have participated in online trade missions to Asian countries.

Project period: December 2021 - March 2022.

«Go Asia» project is a logic continuation of a series of online trade missions to Asian countries conducted by COIN with the support of the USAID CEU Program at the beginning of the year and confirmed the high potential of Ukrainian export to these countries. At the moment, 4 manufacturers from among the participants of trade missions have signed supply agreements with Asian importers. Another 6 companies have every chance to sign in the coming months.

Why Asia?

  • In 2020 Ukraine increased its export of agricultural and food products by 186% to Vietnam, 81% to Japan, 25% to the Republic of Korea, 20% to Singapore, 15% to Malaysia, 1% to Indonesia. And this is just the beginning.
  • Expenses for food products will be doubled to more than 8 trillion US dollars  by 2030, from 4 trillion US dollars in 2019. Thus, Asia will be the world's largest food and beverage market (according to a joint report by PwC, Rabobank and Temasek).
  • Asia is experiencing the fastest expansion of the middle class the world has ever seen. The total population of the seven selected countries is 659,3 million people, and import of agricultural and food products is growing by 3-5% every year.
  • In 2020 15 countries in the Asia-Pacific region (including selected countries under «Go Asia» project) signed a Free Trade Agreement - Regional, Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). RCEP covers an area of ​​2,2 billion people, a third of the world's production capacity and 29% of world trade.
  • The region is experiencing a gradual change in consumer habits towards increasing health care and the use of digital technologies.

Webinar

The first webinar will take place on December 17, 2021 at 11:00 and will be dedicated to the markets of the Republic of Korea and Japan.

Export managers and commercial directors of food companies representing small and medium businesses (SMEs) and seeking to develop their sales in Asia are invited to participate in the webinar.

The webinar will provide an opportunity to learn about the benefits and business opportunities of trade in the region, choose the most promising market, understand insights and prepare your products for the needs of the Asian market.

During the webinar, country studies will be presented and participants will receive practical recommendations for successful export:

  • Review of import and retail trade, dynamics and forecasts;
  • Specifics of effective communication with importers;
  • Overview of priority product categories;
  • Requirements for food products on the market of selected countries;
  • Trends and expectations of consumers;
  • Examples of packaging and advertising slogans on the packaging;
  • Examples of competitors and product prices.

Databases allow you to track information about consumer markets and products, the dynamics of retail markets, consumer preferences - all this to improve business decisions by companies in planning export activities.
