First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyridenko discussed economic and investment cooperation with US delegation

First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyridenko met with the Chargé d'Affaires of the United States in Ukraine a.i. Kristina A. Kvien to discuss key issues of economic cooperation. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine - Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka, representatives of the US Embassy in Ukraine, USAID Mission Director James Hope.

«Our countries are aimed at implementing the agreements based on the results of the meeting of our presidents, the 10th meeting of the Ukraine-US TIC and the signing of a new Charter of Strategic Partnership. In particular, the key priorities of bilateral trade, economic and investment cooperation include expanding trade, improving the investment environment, protecting intellectual property, strengthening corporate governance, continuing economic reforms in Ukraine,» - said First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Economy Yulia Svyridenko. 

The parties discussed the creation of a favorable business climate for trade partnerships between Ukrainian and American companies in order to significantly increase their participation in the economies of both countries, especially in energy, agriculture, infrastructure development and more.

The Ukrainian side stressed that the Government of Ukraine will continue the policy of reforms aimed at restoring economic growth, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and bringing the country closer to the European and Euro-Atlantic future.

Along with digitalization, the launch of large-scale privatization and the adoption of a law on state support for the projects with significant investment Ukraine has taken a number of important steps to attract foreign investment. In particular, as of 30 June, 2021 860,8 million US dollars of investments from the USA were attracted to the economy of Ukraine, which accounts for 2% of the total volume of investment in Ukraine.

The parties also discussed the steps Ukraine is taking to ensure the protection of intellectual property rights. The First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine thanked the American side for supporting Ukraine in this sphere.

For reference

Bilateral trade in goods and services between Ukraine and the United States of America for 9 months of 2021 amounted to 5413,5 million US dollars, which is 23,8% more than in the same period last year. Export from Ukraine amounted to 2482,7 million US dollars (+ 46%).
