Fifth meeting of the EU-Ukraine Subcommittee on Trade and Sustainable Development

On October 28, 2021, the fifth meeting of the EU-Ukraine Subcommittee on Trade and Sustainable Development was held in Kyiv with the help of videoconference. Within the framework of the event, discussion sessions were held on institutional issues, including the formation of a group of experts, trade and employment, sustainable forest management and renewable energy.

The Ukrainian delegation informed about the progress of improvement of labor legislation, the main achievements of forestry reform in Ukraine in 2021, the state of implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union concerning energy efficiency.

The parties discussed the importance of implementing the commitments under the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Ukraine informed the European side about further measures taken in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, taking into account measures on eco-design and energy labeling.

The EU welcomed the measures taken to combat undeclared work and called for the development of a joint CoE/ILO project in this regard to be taken into account when aligning national legislation with ILO conventions № 81 and № 129.

The Parties will continue their cooperation on the issues covered by the chapter  «Trade and Sustainable Development» of the Association Agreement and will return to the draft Decision on the establishment of the Group of Experts on Trade and Sustainable Development, in accordance with Article 301 (3), in the second quarter of 2022 in order to include here 15 members at once, after completion of the necessary procedural steps by both Parties.
