The European Commission (EC) plans to cut imports of Ukrainian sugar due to complaints from EU producers that large shipments have led to a collapse in prices.
The intention to reduce sugar imports from Ukraine was voiced by EU Agriculture Commissioner Christoph Hansen during a meeting with leaders of French farming unions and industry representatives at the Paris Agricultural Exhibition in late February.
When asked to comment on the situation, the EC responded that it is aware of the concerns of farmers and EU member states about certain types of agricultural imports.
