The European integration law on organic production will come into force on August 2, 2019

The Law of Ukraine № 2496-VIII “On Basic Principles and Requirements for Organic Production, Turning and Marking of Organic Products” implementation will result into reducing the number of unscrupulous producers in the organic sector.

The press-service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reported that it was announced by Olga Trofimtseva, the acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine during the opening of the 5th International Conference on Organic Crop Production. The conference was held in Poltava National Agricultural Academy, on June 20-21, 2019. The program of the event included the Organic Field Day, where the visitors saw the new technologies in action.

The Law of Ukraine № 2496-VIII strengthens the competitiveness of fair producers who stick to the rules of organic production. Olga Trofimtseva has also said that according to the Article 34 of the Law of Ukraine “On Basic Principles and Requirements for Organic Production, Turning and Marking of Organic Products” it is forbidden to label by the state logo the organic agricultural products if they were not obtained as a result of organic production or if they are product of a transitional period. It is also forbidden during the labeling of such products to use any signs or inscriptions like “organic”, “biodynamic”, “biological”, “green product” or any other one-root or derivative words from these words with the prefixes "bio-", "eco-" and so on in any languages. The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection will control the producers regarding their compliance with the requirements.
