The EU simplifies the rules for the transportation of goods between countries

“The Yevropeiska Pravda” informs that according to Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, the European Commission approved new rules on passage of goods through the so-called “green corridors” to avoid queues and delays in deliveries.

The simplification includes shortening of border crossing time to maximum 15 minutes and opening of the “green corridors” for those who transport any kind of goods. The national governments must cancel any existing restrictions concerning transportation of goods in certain days or at certain time. The requirements for the shipping carriers’ documents will also become milder.

The President of the European Commission has said that different measures taken in order to prevent spread of COVID-2019 slow down and even paralyze transport connection. All this causes delays in deliveries and lack of some types of products.

According to Ursula von der Leyen, on March 21-22, the queues at some border checkpoints were 40 km long and carriers had to wait up to 18 hours.

She has also added that the cross-border health checks can be a useful additional measure, which helps to prevent spread of the virus. But at the same time, these measures must be implemented in such a way, so that they do not block the free movement of goods. Fight against the virus is going to take a long time. And one of the important things is to preserve Single European Market.
