Britain and the EU conclude a new trade agreement: simplifications are provided for food

The UK and EU have reached a historic trade agreement to reset post-Brexit trade relations.

The main outcome of the negotiations is an agreement to extend access for European fishing vessels to British waters for another 12 years.

At the core of the reset is a defense and security pact that could allow British defense companies to participate in a €150 billion European rearmament program.

Three EU diplomats confirmed that Brussels dropped its demand to link the duration of the agri-food agreement to the fisheries agreement.

Additionally, the agreement includes:

  • Continued efforts to support travel and cultural exchange, including artists’ activities;
  • Emphasis on deepening cooperation to address issues related to irregular migration;
  • Exploration of opportunities for the UK to participate in the EU’s internal electricity market;
  • Continuation of the Windsor Framework, ensuring Northern Ireland’s privileged dual access to both the EU single market and the UK internal market;
  • Efforts to establish a linkage between carbon emissions trading markets.
