In 2023, Ukraine has increased its export of furniture and sugar, and primarily imported fuel, medicines and UAVs

According to the results of 2023, export volumes in Ukraine have increased and amounted to almost 100 million tons of goods.

This is 112 thousand tons more than in 2022. However, in terms of value, the indicator fell by 18,7% or 35,8 billion US dollars.

Despite the general reducein the export of Ukrainian goods, positive trends are observed in the furniture market. Last year, compared to 2022, volumes increased by 11%, and cash receipts by 7%. Ukraine also exported 1,7 times more sugar last year.

However, according to most export items, the Ukrainian economy lost revenue in 2023. For example, the largest export product in terms of volume - corn, with a physical growth of 5% in terms of money, gave 16,8% less than a year earlier. Last year, 26,2 million tons of this grain crop were exported from Ukraine.

Export revenues last year reached one of the lowest figures in the last decade. This is an expected and objective result, which was a consequence of problems in logistics.

In general in 2023 Ukraine has exported by sea almost 1 million tons more than last year. Besides grain, other goods, including metal, are also exported this way. After the launch of the alternative sea corridor, the export of products of this group increased. Thus, in December compared to November, the export of semi-finished products increased by 40% and flat rolled products by 45,3%.

On the other hand, export by automobile transport continue to  reduce. The main reason is the Polish blocking of borders. In December, compared to November, the indicator fell by 18.3%. But according to the results of the year, the losses are insignificant - only -0,7%. To solve this problem, negotiations are ongoing at all levels.

At the same time, Ukraine has increased its export by container transportation - +86% by railway and +36% by road. It is now the most efficient kind of transport for value-added products.

Contrary to export, import in monetary terms increased last year and amounted to 62,2 billion US dollars. Ukraine has imported the most fuel for 7,8 billion US dollars, "miscellaneous" (what is not advertised) for 3,7 billion US dollars, medicines for 1,7 billion US dollars, UAVs for 681 million US dollars. Cars, fertilizers and plant protection products are also in the top import positions.
