In 2019 Ukraine has increased honey exports by 12,7%

Valerii Kureiko, the co-founder of the apiary “Honey Beekeeper” (trademark “Znatnyi Med”) informed the “Interfax-Ukraine” that according to the results of 2019 Ukraine exported 55,6 thousand tons of honey worth 100 million USD and this is 12,7% more in comparison with 2018.

He also said that in 2006-2010 the honey export volumes were comparatively small (from 3 thousand to 7 thousand tons per year). In 2011 the volumes started to increase and, for example, in 2014-2015 they amounted to 36 thousand tons per year, in 2016 they amounted to over 56 thousand tons per year. The most successful for honey exporters was 2017 when 67,8 thousand tons of honey were exported.

According to the information provided by Valerii Kureiko, the number of exporters has also significantly increased. In 2010 there were 2 or 3 companies engaged in honey export and today their amount increased to over 70 companies. He has also mentioned that there are not as many companies, which export honey, in other countries. For example, in Argentina, which is one of TOP-3 world honey exporters, there are only 15 companies that export honey.

In 2019 total production volume of honey in Ukraine was 100-110 thousand tons, according to the co-founder of the “Honey Beekeeper” apiary.

Ukraine’s internal market consumes a bit less than half of the production volume: on average, about 1-1,1 kg of honey per capita.

Valerii Kureiko said that in 2019 from 100 thousand tons of honey, which were produced, 55,6 thousand tons were exported and 50 were sold on the internal market.
