Canada extends the duty-free import of Ukrainian products for one year

Canada has extended for one year the exemption from customs duties on goods originating in Ukraine. This decision ensures the continuation of duty-free import of Ukrainian products to Canada, effective from June 9, 2022.

On the website of the Canadian Government it is said that according to the Order SOR/2024-111 the duty-free import of Ukrainian products, implemented on June 9, 2022 will last till June 9, 2025.

According to the statement, customs fees relief is guaranteed for products of Ukrainian origin, which have undergone the last production process, except for minimal operations, in Ukraine. Minimal operations mean product preservation, packaging, dilution with water, etc.

Except customs fees relief, the anti-dumping and countervailing duties paid in accordance with the Law on Special Import Measures on goods that acquired their main characteristics in Ukraine are also canceled.

To receive benefits, the importer must submit an application within two years after importing the goods. At the same time, the ban on the import of goods from certain regions of Ukraine in accordance with the sanctions under the Law on Special Economic Measures remains in force.

In the first quarter of 2024 the exports of goods from Ukraine to Canada increased 2,66 times up to 47,43 million USD.
