Moldova has banned the import of poultry from Ukraine: poultry farmers ask to resolve the problem

The National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) of the Republic of Moldova on January 26, 2026, made a decision on a temporary ban on the import from Ukraine of poultry meat and poultry feed.

The basis for the introduction of restrictions were cases of detection in ready-made poultry feeds from Ukraine of metronidazole – a broad-spectrum antibiotic, which is prohibited for use in Ukraine, EU countries and the Republic of Moldova for productive animals.

During the inspection in Ukraine of ready-made poultry feeds, the presence of metronidazole was confirmed only in one sample.

ANSA establishes a ban not only on the import of ready-made feeds from Ukraine, but also on poultry meat, in which no inconsistencies were found.

The organization "Union of Poultry Farmers of Ukraine" advocates for conducting appropriate negotiations with the authorized state bodies of the Republic of Moldova regarding the prevention of biased actions directed against Ukrainian exporters and increasing bilateral trade in the future.

In addition, the association called on the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection:

to conduct a thorough investigation and establish the sources of metronidazole entering industrial batches of feeds intended for export to the Republic of Moldova;

based on the results of the investigation, prepare a detailed report and provide it to ANSA;

prepare a guarantee letter to ANSA with a request to lift the restrictions on the import from Ukraine of poultry meat, taking into account the compliance of this product with the requirements of Ukrainian, European, Moldovan legislation.
