China remains the main buyer of Ukrainian barley despite a decline in exports

Since the start of the new marketing year, Ukrainian farmers have exported 1.2 million tonnes of barley, which is 37% less compared to the same period of the previous year. The significant decline in export volumes is linked to military hostilities, complicated logistics, and volatility in global markets.

China remains the key importer of Ukrainian barley, accounting for 42% of total exports. This figure indicates sustained demand from the Chinese market for Ukrainian grain products.

Compared with the previous season, China reduced its purchases by 31%. Despite the decline in volumes, China remains the largest partner for Ukrainian barley exporters.

Turkey has demonstrated a significant increase in imports of Ukrainian barley: this year, purchases rose 6.4 times compared with last season – from 36 thousand tonnes to 233 thousand tonnes. Turkey’s share of total exports has already reached 20%.

Libya ranks third among importers with a 12% share; however, it also reduced purchase volumes by 37%. This downward trend in procurement is typical of many of Ukraine’s traditional trading partners.
