EU increases quotas for the export of honey, eggs, wheat and sugar from Ukraine

At the end of October, updated conditions of the free trade area between Ukraine and the EU will start to apply, which provide for a substantial increase in quotas for duty-free export of certain agricultural goods from Ukraine.

The biggest changes will affect exporters of honey, eggs, wheat and sugar. The quota for the export of Ukrainian honey to the EU will increase from 6 000 t to 35 000 t. Demand for this product in EU countries is stable even with an import duty of 17%, since European prices allow these costs to be compensated.

Supplies of eggs will also increase – the quota will rise from 6 000 t to 18 000 t, which opens additional opportunities for Ukrainian producers.

The quota for wheat export is being raised from 1 million t to 1.3 million t. At the same time, wheat flour has been separated into an individual category: duty-free export to the EU of up to 30 000 t of this product is provided for.

The quota for sugar will increase from 20 000 t to 100 000 t. At the same time, derived sugar products that were previously included in this limit have been removed from the quota.

Thanks to the new rules, Ukrainian producers will receive expanded access to the EU market, which may positively affect the development of the country’s agricultural sector.
