The free trade zone between Ukraine and the EU will continue to operate from June 6, says Shmyhal

There is no threat of the EU reinstating quotas on imports of agricultural goods from Ukraine. Quotas in trade with the EU will remain in place until amendments are made to the Association Agreement.

This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a press conference with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.

The parties have preliminarily agreed that the free trade zone, within the scope of 7/12 quotas, will remain in effect until amendments are made to Article 29 of the Association Agreement.

Negotiations are ongoing regarding these amendments. “I hope that, together with the European Commission, we will finalize and sign these changes this year. Accordingly, both Ukrainian and European businesses that have already signed contracts within the established volumes and quotas will not experience any deterioration,” Shmyhal emphasized.

In turn, the Finnish Prime Minister noted that the EU must find fair trade conditions with Ukraine to support the country’s economy.
