A new project, HONOR, aimed at supporting women and agricultural cooperatives, has launched in Ukraine

A new project HONOR has launched in Ukraine, initiated by SOCODEVI, a Canadian organization that promotes cooperative development and entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector, the project is funded by the Government of Canada. The HONOR project is a strategic initiative to support rural women and transform agri-food systems.

Oksana Osmachko expressed gratitude for Canada’s significant support to Ukraine’s agricultural sector. Hong-Won Yu, Director of Cooperation Programs at the Canadian Embassy, noted that through the Canada-Ukraine HONOR project, the Government of Canada recognizes and honors the contributions of rural women to Ukraine’s agri-food systems.

The HONOR project focuses on:

  • Promoting gender equality, climate change adaptation, and strengthening food security;
  • Enhancing Ukraine’s position in international markets in the context of European integration;
  • Strengthening women’s leadership and effective participation in decision-making related to sustainable agri-food systems and crisis management;
  • Advancing women’s leading role in recovery and development, enhancing their resilience to future challenges.

The project will unite the cooperative movement and key stakeholders to support 50 cooperatives providing services to their members, assist 5,000 farmers in improving production capacities in the dairy, berry, vegetable, honey, and grain sectors, and implement pilot projects for social, energy, and other types of cooperatives to develop infrastructure in rural communities.
