Spain topped the ranking of the largest buyers of Ukrainian food products in 2024

A distinctive feature of 2024 was the change in the ranking of the biggest buyers of Ukrainian food products.

Spain took the lead, rising from 5th place in the top 10 in 2023. While the value of supplies from Ukraine to Spain in 2023 were 1,765 million USD, it increased by one and a half times in 2024 to 2,679 million USD. Spain’s share in food exports reached 10.8%.

The Netherlands secured second place in the ranking of buyers of Ukrainian food products. By increasing the volume of purchases from 1,274 million USD in 2023 to 1,799 million USD (+41%), this European country achieved a share of 7.2%.

Turkey, having imported agricultural products from Ukraine worth 1,658 million USD, retained third place in the ranking for the third consecutive year, with a share of 6.7%.

Poland continued to reduce the value of its purchases of Ukrainian agricultural products, cutting them by 15% compared to 2023, down to 1,523 million USD. Romania also significantly reduced (-71%) its imports of Ukrainian agri-food products, dropping to 836 million USD.

Other key consumers of agricultural products included: Egypt (1,408 million USD, +32%), Italy (1,312 million USD, +26%), China (1,302 million USD, -41%), Germany (1,272 million USD, +48%), and India (848 million USD, +145%).

These 10 countries generated 59% of the foreign currency earnings for Ukrainian agri-food exporters over the past year.

The key products of Ukraine’s agricultural exports traditionally included grain crops, oils and fats, various oilseeds, residues from the food and processing industry, meat and by-products, which were again supplemented by sugar and confectionery products made from it. These product segments saw a simultaneous increase in both volume and value of sales to foreign markets.

According to data from the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in 2024, Ukraine exported agri-food products (groups 1–24 of the Ukrainian Classification of Goods for Foreign Economic Activity, as well as casein, albumin, hides, furs, wool, etc.) worth 24.84 billion USD.
