In 2024, for the first time in history, the trade turnover of agricultural products between Ukraine and the European Union (EU) reached $17 billion.
Mykola Puhachov, Deputy Director of the National Scientific Center, noted that Ukraine achieved a positive trade balance with the EU in agricultural products, amounting to approximately $9 billion.
Eight countries accounted for 80% of the total turnover of agri-food goods. The main European trading partners last year were Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Romania, France, and Belgium.
At the same time, Ukraine imported agricultural products from the EU worth a total of $4 billion in 2024 (a 9% increase compared to 2023).
The most imported items included: beverages - $484 million, food products, extracts and concentrates - $405 million, tobacco products - $385 million, animal feed, residues and waste - $356 million, cocoa and chocolate products - $289 million, dairy products - $277 million (including cheeses worth $225 million), and prepared grain products - $258 million.
Overall, these product groups made up 61% of all food imports from the European Union. Thus, the EU maintained its leading position among suppliers of agri-food products to Ukraine. Thanks to stable supplies from EU member states, the domestic market is provided with a diverse range of goods.
