Ukraine has joined the international ePhyto system

Ukraine has officially joined the international ePhyto system. The first electronic phytosanitary certificate has already been issued. The implementation of ePhyto is an important step for Ukraine, as it will enhance the trust of international partners and the competitiveness of Ukrainian agricultural products, including grains, while facilitating their unhindered circulation on the global market. The use of ePhyto solves several pressing issues, namely:

  • preventing the forgery of phytosanitary certificates;
  • simplifying procedures in international trade;
  • increasing transparency during the exchange of certificates between countries;
  • promoting the diversification of Ukrainian exports;
  • preventing the unauthorized import of plant-origin products.

In Ukraine, the exchange of electronic phytosanitary certificates is carried out through the Phytosanitary Inspection System (PHIS) with the ePhyto resolution, which was developed and implemented with the support of the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation (GIZ) project and the EU project EU4SaferFood.

Quarantine certificates, phytosanitary certificates, and phytosanitary certificates for re-export will feature a QR code that can be used to verify the document’s authenticity.
