The volume of taxable imports of goods transported by road last year decreased by 15.6%, or 2 million tons. Specifically, in 2023, this figure reached 13.1 million tons, while in 2024 it dropped to 11.0 million tons, according to the Center for Transport Strategies (CTS).
Customs officials emphasize that this pertains to goods with the highest level of tax burden.
Among the factors that significantly influenced the commodity structure and dynamics of taxable imports, they cite the further complication of logistics due to attacks on transport infrastructure and the blocking of road border checkpoints in the first quarter of 2024. Additionally, the intensification of mobilization processes starting in June 2024, including commercial transport drivers, played a role.
In 2024, the tax burden on imports of goods transported by road was $0.83/kg, by rail – $0.29/kg, and by sea – $0.25/kg.
