Ukraine slowed down dairy export in November and increased import

In November 2024, the slowdown in dairy export was likely caused by a shortage of raw milk, an increase in production costs due to a fall in world prices for dairy products and a seasonal decline in the market on the eve of the holidays. In November 2024, Ukraine has exported 37,4 thousand tons of dairy products worth $ 21,94 million. Thus, the physical volume of export increased by only 1% compared to October this year, while increasing by 31% compared to November 2023.

Over the 11 months of this year, 350,6 thousand tons of dairy products worth $ 274,8 million were exported. In physical volumes, dairy export increased by 9%, and cash proceeds by 15% compared to the previous year.
The main export categories in November in monetary terms were cheeses (28%), powdered and condensed milk (26%), butter (21%) and casein (12%).

At the same time, high prices and inflation affected the reduction in consumption of domestically produced dairy products in Ukraine. As for import, in November, 47,3 thousand tons of dairy products were imported from abroad to Ukraine (+22% by October this year and +4% by November 2023).

In November, the foreign trade balance in the dairy market was negative and amounted to 7,06 million US dollars.
