In 2024, the volume of purchases of water-melons and melons by Ukraine from abroad returned to pre-war levels.

“In two years of investments in the production of melons and water-melons in new geographical conditions, Ukraine was able to completely replace the import that had been necessary since the beginning of the war,” - writes Yevgen Kuzin, an analyst of the fruit and vegetable market of the EastFruit project. “Nevertheless, everything has to be paid for, and melon producers paid for the rapid expansion of areas with low prices, which, although slightly higher than pre-war, turned out to be much lower than the levels of 2022-2023. Consumers also had to pay: the quality and taste of water-melons and melons grown in new geographical conditions were often unsatisfactory.”
