Ukraine has increased chicken meat imports by one and a half times since the beginning of the year

According to the data, provided by the State Customs Service of Ukraine, during the 4-month period of 2020 Ukraine has increased chicken meat imports to 16,1 million USD and this is 46,7% more than in January-April of 2019 (10,9 million USD). The main chicken meat suppliers, which delivered this product to Ukraine, were Poland (56%) and Hungary (over 25%).

At the same time, chicken meat exports from Ukraine increased by 11,5 % – to almost 200 million USD. The biggest amounts of this product were exported to the Netherlands (18%), the Saudi Arabia (15%) and Germany (14,5%). Moreover, in January-April Ukraine reduced exports of eggs by almost 30% – to 33,4 million USD (in comparison with 47,5 million USD in January-April of 2019).

The egg imports was reduced by two and a half times – to 3,08 million USD in comparison with 7,9 million USD in the previous year. The main buyers of Ukrainian eggs in January-April were the United Arab Emirates (31% of all deliveries), Latvia (12%) and the Saudi Arabia (11%). As it has been reported earlier, in April the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine recommended the largest poultry meat producer in Ukraine, Myronivskyi Hliboproduct (MHP), to refrain from excessive exports of poultry meat abroad in order to avoid a deficit in Ukraine.

At the same time, the Government plans during the quarantine, which will be continued in Ukraine, at least to May 22, to reduce exports of cereal crops, sunflower oil, poultry meat and other key exports positions.
