On December 1, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the 2nd reading the draft law "On geographical markings of alcoholic beverages" (No. 6480). The document establishes general rules for the definition, description, presentation and labeling of alcoholic beverages, rules for the use of official names of alcoholic beverages. This harmonizes the provisions of national legislation with the norms of EU law, which are subject to implementation on the basis of the Association Agreement.

The draft law will promote the development of craft alcohol production and the creation of working places for the population, in particular, in rural areas. There will be additional opportunities for processing agricultural products and increasing domestic production of products with high added value.

The draft law implements into the national legislation of Ukraine the provisions of the Regulation of the European Parliament and the Council (EU) No. 2019/787 of April 17, 2019 regarding the definition, description, presentation and labeling of alcoholic beverages, the use of the names of alcoholic beverages in the presentation and labeling of other food products, the protection of geographical indications alcoholic beverages, the use of ethyl alcohol and distillates of agricultural origin in alcoholic beverages and the repeal of Regulation (EC) No. 110/2008.
