On September 29, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) began a remote audit of Ukraine’s control system.
The Ukrainian State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection team will, over two weeks, present the agency’s work and answer questions from EU representatives.
“The audit aims to assess state control over residues of pharmacologically active substances, pesticides, and contaminants in products for which Ukraine is included in the list of countries with approved residue monitoring plans under Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/405,” the agency clarified.
Currently, Ukraine has approved residue monitoring plans for food products of animal origin, including cattle and pigs, poultry, eggs, honey, and intestinal raw materials, etc.
The audit covers: evaluation of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection at central, regional, and local levels; implementation of state monitoring plans; follow-up actions in case of non-compliance; communication between authorities and market operators; and the institutional capacity of the laboratory network and its ability to apply analytical research methods.
